Why We Must Act Now to Protect Our Older Generations
Every day, thousands of older adults silently endure emotional, financial, and even physical abuse. Many of them, like our beloved caregiver, have spent their lives in service to others—raising families, supporting communities, and caring for the vulnerable. And yet, in their time of need, they are often met with silence, neglect, or injustice.
This must change.
What Is Elder Abuse?
Elder abuse isn’t always visible. It can take the form of:
Financial manipulation — like wrongful foreclosures or scams
Emotional mistreatment — neglect, isolation, or intimidation
Loss of autonomy — being stripped of housing, healthcare, or legal rights
In the case of our 70-year-old caregiver, a wrongful foreclosure devastated her life. After serving the elderly for over 45 years, she became a victim of the very injustices she helped others overcome. Her strength is remarkable, but her pain is undeniable.
This Could Happen to Any of Us
What happened to her isn’t just an isolated case—it’s part of a larger, systemic issue. Many seniors face housing insecurity, are unaware of their legal rights, or are unable to fight back when threatened.
The truth is: we don’t talk enough about elder abuse. And we certainly don’t act fast enough to prevent it.
